Literary Travels

In search of new information, perspective and guidance, the words pull me in and almost without thought, away I go, tumbling along on an another journey. Always itching for a new road trip My "cursing knitting book" , my composting manual and "Organic Farming" are well traveled friends. When I'm feeling a little agoraphobic, "No Doubt About It" always gives me a needed kick to get out the door. "Finding Peace, Happiness and Joy" has been an excellent road map, and with "Christ and the New Covenant" I discover overlooked trails along the familiar route of His Word.

Recently I have felt an uncontrollable itch for a new road trip across some fictional territory. Guilt of the time it necessitates wouldn't give in, so I succumbed and went audio. At first it felt like cheating, but with seemingly little effort, my house is a lot cleaner. So with neatly packed bags but no set travel plans, I am a mp3 vagabond.

One of my favorite wanderings has been through the novels of Jane Austen. Her "food for rambling fancy" would have made enjoyable reading, but traversing them with someone speaking a delightful English accent was also amusing. After a short but intense pit stop with "Not for Sale" (still pondering how to post about that one), I'm back on the road with Jane Eyre because the best books and excursions are free.

A quick jaunt or in depth pilgrimage...whatever your traveling style, saunter over to Chocolateonmycranium for some new ideas.

  1. Oh, listening to a Jane Austen book read with an English accent would be so fun! I think I'll have to try that.

  3. We love listening to audio books. It helps to pass the time driving to and from town. I should try it while we're cleaning!

Loved the way you described your travels!

  4. I fall asleep to books on tape, which is especially bad when driving. ;) (No, I haven't ever...but I can't listen to them when I need to pay attention!)

I would love to hear Austin with an accent though. Very fun.

  5. I wish I had more time to read also. Audio books get me exercising though.

I know what you mean about the knitting book but am also interested in your organic gardening book

  6. Your choices reflect some of mine--I have shelves full of books to fit any mood I am in--from how-to's to the illustrated dictionary to my personal scriptures and everything in between!

  7. I should try audio books some time. For now I love and prefer the feel of a book in my hand ... but I do exercise 5 days a week just so I can read while I work out :) !!

  9. Listening to books on cassette is great! I love to put the kids down for their quiet time and then put a book on tape in and start on one of my projects (knitting, crocheting, painting, etc.)!
